One fine morning you discover that your all important Gmail has been hacked. There is nothing much you can do about it except try to get your account back. Main reasons for somebody hacking into your Gmail account is that you may have fallen victim to a phishing attack or your PC/laptop has been compromised with malware. Once you notice your Gmail has been hacked, try and log into the account as soon as possible.

I can still log into my account – now what?

If you can log in, great news! But don’t breathe a sigh of relief just yet. Remember, quick thinking will help you get your Gmail account back. Change your password immediately and make sure to check that your secondary email or security question hasn’t been changed too.

You should also contact any friends or family on your contact list and let them know that your email was compromised. You should warn to not click on links that may be sent from your account.

What to do if you no longer have access to your account

If for some reason you are late in out guessing the hacker and the hacker has locked you out of your account follow the following steps. If your secondary email address has been changed, you are going to want to select the ‘I’m having other problems signing in’ option, enter your affected email address and click continue. From here you might be asked to enter a CAPTCHA and choose the ‘I think someone else is using my account’ option. Click the ‘If you can’t access your account’ dropdown and you’ll have to fill in the account recovery form. Google should now be able to help guide you through a recovery process and will get back to you in order to help get your account back. If all things go well, you should have the control of your Gmail account in not time. But remember to put a very tough password this time around so the hacker doesnt make a more again.
